Workplace Noise
INTRODUCTION
Noise induced hearing loss is permanent. It builds gradually, and by the time a worker notices it, the damage is already done. There is no cure. The Occupational Health and Safety Regulations 2017 (Vic) require employers to ensure workers are not exposed above legal limits of 85 dB(A) averaged over an 8-hour shift and a peak limit of 140 dB(C).
WHAT WE DO
If your workers operate machinery, power tools, or work in noisy environments, these obligations apply to you. Safety Systems provides independent noise assessment using calibrated Type 1 instrumentation, giving you measured results, identified risks, and practical recommendations to protect your workers and meet your legal obligations.
The regulations require you to:
- Identify hazardous noise in the workplace
- Conduct a noise assessment
- Implement controls starting with elimination
- Provide hearing protectors where noise is hazardous
- Provide audiometric testing for hearing protector users
- Keep noise exposures below legal limits
HOW WE DELIVER
- Noise survey
- Noise dosimetry
- Noise mapping
- Hearing protector assessment
HOW WE DO IT
- Review your site before arriving
- Identify workers and areas at highest risk
- Calibrate equipment on site
- Use Type 1 sound level meter for area measurements
- Deploy personal dosimeters where required
- Review existing site controls and hearing protectors
- Calculate and interpret results against legal limits
- Prepare a clear report with findings and recommendations
YOUR SOLUTION
- Map the noise, find the risk
- Measured against legal limits
- Hearing protectors assessed
- Plain English, ready to act
WHY IT MATTERS
Noise induced hearing loss is one of the most common and most preventable workplace injuries in Australia. It is also one of the most litigated, because the damage accumulates over years, the employer's failure to measure and act is difficult to defend.
Without a noise assessment, you cannot confirm whether exposures exceed legal limits, identify which workers need hearing protectors, or demonstrate that you have met your obligation to manage the risk.
With Safety Systems, you get:
- Identification of all hazardous noise sources in your workplace
- Measured exposure results compared against legal limits
- Assessment of hearing protectors currently in use
- A report that stands up to WorkSafe Victoria scrutiny
- Plain English findings your supervisors and workers can understand
- Evidence of due diligence under the regulations
- Practical recommendations for your site
- Support to act on findings
